Jan Rokyta studied to play the cimbalom with Ludmila Dadáková at the Conservatory of Music in Bratislava (Slovakia) and the recorder with Walter van Hauwe and Paul Leenhouts at the Sweelinck Academy of Music in Amsterdam. He has played with, among others, the cimbalom orchestra Technik in Ostrava (Czech Republic), which was founded in 1958 by his father, Jan Rokyta sr. But also with the Philharmonic orchestra of Radio Bratislava and, later, when he came to Holland he joined the Schönberg Ensemble, Het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (The Dutch Wind-instruments ensemble), The New Ensemble and The Prometheus Ensemble (Belgium).From 1995 to 2002 Jan was a member of The International Dance Theatre Orchestra Amsterdam. There he gathered a lot of expertise in the field of world- and folkmusic. Recently Jan is working with the famous Jewish singer Shura Lipovsky. Next to that he forms a cimbalom/panpipe duo with his wife Liselotte Rokyta. Together they offer a programme that combines classical music with world music. With the activities of Musical Wines in mind Jan added a wine certificate to his accomplishments in 2002.

During 2003 and 2004 he took intensive courses at the Wine Academy in Maarn and since October 2004 he is a qualified “Viticulturist of the Wine Academy”.
